Why we still use plaster.
Drywall is fine for a developer-grade build. But under raking light, taped joints catch shadows that no amount of paint will hide. Three-coat plaster, properly trowelled, gives you a single planar surface across the whole room.
The other reason is sound. A plaster ceiling damps footsteps from the floor above noticeably better than a typical drywall ceiling. The room feels heavier, calmer, more grown up.

Five days, end to end.
A typical living-room ceiling, 220 to 280 square feet, runs to a five-day program. Larger rooms phase across two weeks.
Substrate
Existing surface assessed and levelled. Lath repaired or board fixed where needed. Dust shroud installed.
Scratch coat
First plaster coat applied, scored, and left to set. Joints reinforced with mesh tape.
Brown coat
Second pass to true the plane. Long darby and straightedge work to flatten across the entire ceiling.
Finish & burnish
Finish coat troweled and burnished. Cove or shadow gap detail closed. Sealer applied once dry.
